Alnico 5 magnets have a more classic 60’s sound with slightly more defined low end and less mids while still holding clarity and sparkle. If you want a more darker sound pickup with slightly lower output due to weaker magnets then Alnico 2 magnets (KTN12) is the better option.

A2 – round, warm, bass and treble trimmed back a touch (compared to A5)

A5 – scooped, big bottom, lots of top (compared to A2)

Most people prefer A2 magnets paired with Maple fretboards and A5 magnets paired with Rosewood fretboards as this gives better balance across the tonal spectrum.
